With concerts happening in the city every other weekend now, we’re often left confused, deciding what the hell to wear. This is usually a very tricky area; you have to not be under as well as over dressed at the same time – finding the middle ground is a difficult task. Having gone for a fair share of concerts myself, and having had reasonable hits and misses, I’ve come to realize that you could categorize these concert goers into the following types:
a) the hippie “lazy” – you can easily recognize these people as they would be the most shabbily dressed. They don’t care how they look like and mostly can be spotted wearing their night clothes (no offense).
b) the “look at me I’m gorgeous” type – these kids generally have the idea that they’re going clubbing and don’t know the difference between that and a concert! Ladies please, leave the high heels and skin tight, plunging dresses at home for this one. Focus on the dancing.
c) the really clueless ones – these guys try and try, but something just doesn’t work. It’s usually a mismatch of really awkward clothing.
d) the pros – these are the fellows with the experience that comes with being 50 years old. They know whats right and how’s it done; the trend setters.
Having learned from experience and observation, I can say that there is no hard and fast hit-or-miss formula; but there definitely is a guide for it. Try these basic guidelines and experiment with each look to make it your own.
1) Indoor Night Club Concert
We see these happen every weekend now; one of your favorite DJs spinning his tracks at a nightclub. Now, what to wear? Let’s ditch those 6inch pumps and opt for something more comfortable; remember, you’re going for dancing and not standing in a corner. We need to keep it hot as well as comfortable. Go for flats – strappy sandals or ballerinas. Pick dark colors, as it is nighttime and ultimately a club. Make sure your clothes allow for movement; wear shorts/skirt and pair with a v-neck or a lose shirt. And finally, accessorize! It glams everything up. Use this as an example:
2) Outdoor Day/Night Concert
We’ve had tons of these in our city recently and we still can’t get enough of them. More concerts, more clothing options required. Can’t wear the same style every time – now that’s social suicide. Things common with this concert are: tan, sweat and dust. So of course our essentials are going to include sun tan lotion, sunglasses, covered ballerinas and short/airy clothing. Use this as an example:
3) Beach Concert
Sunburn festival Goa is the perfect example of this kind of an event. 3 days on the beach, and a lot of alcohol and dancing – this requires a lot of prep! Here your essentials would evolve around flip flops, sun tan, sunglasses, bikinis, shorts and v-necks. Use this as an example:
The basic idea should always be to enjoy the gig and have a blast! Clothes don’t end up playing such a big role at the end of the day. But it doesn’t hurt to look fabulous too 😉 Go find your “perfect concert look”
